Encounter Overview
Athena is the fourth and final encounter of Pandaemonium: Anabaseios (Normal).
This fight combines arena destruction mechanics, directional attacks, and chain-based AoE patterns. Throughout the encounter, Athena manipulates the arena layout and summons Anthropos constructs that pressure the party with line attacks and targeted mechanics.
Players must react quickly to directional cues from Athena’s wings, chain interactions that trigger AoE explosions, and platform destruction mechanics that limit safe positioning.
Key mechanics include:
• directional wing attacks
• chained AoE sequences
• arena destruction and restoration
• add phase DPS check
• knockbacks and targeted dashes
Correct positioning and quick pattern recognition are essential for surviving the later chain mechanics.
Arena Overview
The encounter takes place on a large panel-based arena.
Several mechanics can:
• destroy sections of the arena
• create instant-death puddles
• limit player movement across panels
Later in the fight, Athena will regenerate destroyed panels through specific abilities.
Falling from the arena results in instant death.
Mechanic Archive
On the Soul
Heavy raidwide magical damage.
Later uses also restore destroyed arena sections.
Response
• mitigate and heal.
Trinity of Souls
Colored rings appear around Athena’s wings as the cast bar fills.
When the cast finishes, Athena fires attacks to her left and right in the order the rings appeared.
Response
• observe the ring order carefully
• move to safe sides between the attacks.
Paradeigma
Athena summons four untargetable Anthropos constructs.
Two constructs fire long line AoEs across the arena.
Two constructs tether random players and fire line attacks toward them.
Response
• avoid the fixed line AoEs
• tethered players aim beams away from the group.
Glaukopis
Heavy line AoE tankbuster.
Response
• tanks mitigate and position away from the party.
Superchain Theory
Chains appear across the arena tethered to spheres or rings.
When the objects reach their chains, they explode.
Sphere
• small circular AoE.
Ring
• donut AoE covering most of the arena.
Later versions include variable tether lengths, determining the order of explosions.
Response
• identify the order of tethers
• move between safe spaces as each AoE resolves.
Parthenos
Athena turns toward a direction and fires a line AoE through her hitbox.
The attack knocks back players struck.
The telegraph appears only briefly near the end of the cast.
Response
• watch Athena’s facing direction
• avoid standing directly in front of the attack.
Unnatural Enchainment
Chains attach to several panels of the arena.
When the cast ends, those panels collapse into the abyss.
While panels are missing, players receive a debuff preventing jumping.
Response
• move to safe panels
• avoid destroyed sections.
Add Phase
Ultima Blades
High raidwide damage.
Athena creates a central safe zone surrounded by an instant-death puddle and becomes untargetable.
Four Anthropos adds appear while Athena’s Power begins charging.
Response
• move to the central safe zone
• defeat the Anthropos before Athena’s Power reaches 100.
Palladion
Athena places targeted AoE markers on players, then dashes to them.
The dash damages anyone between Athena and the target.
Response
• spread out to avoid overlapping damage
• avoid standing in Athena’s dash path.
Clear Cut
Used by the Anthropos adds.
Large 270-degree frontal cone attack.
Response
• stand behind the adds to avoid the attack.
Arena Cleave
After the adds are defeated, Athena fires a wide line AoE across the center panels, destroying them.
Response
• move away from the center of the arena.
Theos’s Ultima
Athena and the remaining constructs unleash a powerful raidwide attack.
If Athena’s Power reached 100 during the add phase, the attack wipes the party.
Response
• defeat the adds quickly
• mitigate and heal the damage.
Dialogos
Stack marker on one player followed by circular AoEs targeting all players.
Response
• group together for the stack
• then spread to avoid overlapping AoEs.
Encounter Flow
The encounter begins with On the Soul, introducing the fight’s recurring raidwide damage pattern.
Athena then begins layering directional mechanics such as Trinity of Souls with add pressure from Paradeigma, forcing players to track wing indicators while avoiding multiple line attacks.
The fight escalates with Superchain Theory, where chain-linked spheres and rings detonate in sequence. Players must read the tether lengths to determine the order of explosions.
Later, Unnatural Enchainment destroys sections of the arena, reducing available space and increasing positional pressure.
The encounter’s midpoint introduces an add phase through Ultima Blades, where the party must defeat four Anthropos constructs before Athena’s Power reaches its limit.
After the add phase resolves, the arena is partially destroyed and Athena resumes her attack patterns, combining earlier mechanics with more restricted movement until she is defeated.
