FFXIV Mounts!

Mounts in Final Fantasy XIV allow players to travel across Eorzea faster on land, through the skies, and underwater. From the iconic Company Chocobo to legendary trial mounts and rare hunt rewards, mounts have become one of the largest long-term collection systems in the game.

Mounts are unlocked through a wide range of activities including trials, raids, hunts, quests, achievements, FATEs, and special progression systems throughout every expansion.

Unlocking Mounts

Players begin unlocking mounts during the level 20 Main Scenario Quest progression. After joining a Grand Company, players can complete the quest My Little Chocobo to obtain their first mount, the Company Chocobo.

Other mounts cannot be ridden until the Company Chocobo has been unlocked.

Once unlocked, mounts can be summoned directly from the Mount Guide or placed onto hotbars for faster access.

Flying and Diving

Heavensward introduced flying mounts, allowing players to traverse expansion zones after attuning to Aether Currents. Since Shadowbringers, all mounts are capable of both flight and underwater travel.

Flying becomes available after completing The Ultimate Weapon for A Realm Reborn zones. Expansion zones require players to attune to local Aether Currents before flight becomes available.

Diving is unlocked through the Main Scenario Quest In Soroban We Trust.

Mount Categories

Mounts in Final Fantasy XIV are typically grouped by their acquisition method. These guides focus on how mounts are earned and connect directly to the systems that reward them.

Multi-Seat Mounts

Some mounts allow multiple players to ride together using the Ride Pillion system. These mounts can transport party members across zones and are commonly used for group travel and hunt trains.

Party members must have access to the destination zone before they can ride pillion.

Mount Speed

Mount speed can be increased through Main Scenario progression and Riding Maps purchased throughout each expansion.

Flying mounts also travel significantly faster than standard ground movement once airborne.

Mount Collection Systems

Many mount collections span multiple systems and expansions. Trial mount collections, hunt achievements, and large-scale progression systems often reward unique mounts after completing full achievement chains.

Because of this, mount farming naturally connects to other systems throughout the game including:

  • Extreme Trials
  • Savage Raids
  • Hunts
  • FATE Progression
  • Achievement Hunting
  • Deep Dungeons
  • Large-Scale Field Operations
