FFXIV Mount Farming Guide (Fastest Mounts & How to Get Them)
Mount farming in Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most popular long-term goals in the game. With hundreds of mounts available across trials, raids, dungeons, and exploration systems, players can target specific farming routes depending on difficulty, drop rates, and time investment.
This guide breaks down the fastest and easiest mounts to farm, the most efficient farming methods, and how mount systems work across each expansion.

How Mount Farming Works
Extreme Trial Mounts
Most mounts come from Extreme Trials, where each boss has a chance to drop a mount whistle. Drop rates are low, often requiring multiple clears to obtain a mount.
Each expansion also includes a collection mount, such as Kirin or Firebird, unlocked after obtaining all trial mounts in that expansion.
Totem System
If a mount does not drop, players receive totems for each clear. These can be exchanged for the mount after enough runs, typically around 99 clears.
Unsynced Farming
Older trials can be completed with No Restrictions (unsynced), allowing high-level players to clear fights quickly and farm mounts efficiently.
Best Trial Mount Farming Strategy
- Use Party Finder instead of Duty Finder for faster grouping
- Run trials unsynced whenever possible
- Farm in small groups for faster clears
- Stay consistent — mount farming often requires dozens of runs
Most players farm mounts by repeatedly clearing Extreme Trials until either the mount drops or enough totems are collected.
Best Raid Mount Farms
Some mounts come from Savage raids or specific raid achievements. These are often easier to farm once the content is outdated and can be completed solo or in small groups.
- Alexander (Savage) — Gobwalker
- Eden Savage mounts
- Pandæmonium Savage mounts
Unlike trial mounts, raid mounts typically require fewer runs but more mechanical awareness.
Solo Mount Farming
Many older mounts can now be farmed solo due to level scaling and unsynced mechanics.
- Older Extreme Trials (ARR / Heavensward)
- Some Savage raids
- Deep dungeon mounts like Heaven-on-High
Solo farming works best with high-level jobs and strong self-sustain.
Mount Farming by Expansion
- A Realm Reborn: Fastest mounts, easiest farms
- Heavensward: Very efficient trial farming
- Stormblood: Slightly longer but still manageable
- Shadowbringers: Moderate difficulty farming
- Endwalker / Dawntrail: Current content, slower farming
Which Mount Should You Farm First?
If you are starting mount farming, begin with A Realm Reborn and Heavensward trial mounts. These can be cleared quickly and provide the fastest results.
Once comfortable, move into later expansions or more complex farming systems like raids or exploration zones.
Guildmaster Notes
Mount farming is less about difficulty and more about persistence.
The mechanics become routine. The clears become faster. And eventually, the drop appears. The real challenge is not the fight — it is the patience to keep running it.
