Encounter Overview

T5 – Twintania is the final encounter of The Binding Coil of Bahamut and was originally the most difficult fight in A Realm Reborn. This encounter is a multi-phase fight that tests positioning, coordination, and execution across several unique mechanics including divebombs, Twisters, and debuff management.

The fight is structured into five distinct phases, each introducing new mechanics while building on previous ones. Mistakes are heavily punished, especially in later phases where overlapping mechanics require precise movement and awareness.

If you want to compare this fight against other raids, see the FFXIV Raid Rankings.

Arena Overview

The arena is a large circular platform with a death wall surrounding it. Several Neurolink puddles appear throughout the fight and become critical for surviving specific mechanics. Proper placement and usage of these puddles is key to success in later phases.

Boss Mechanics

Phase 1 (100% – 85%)

Scourges of Meracydia: Three adds that must be picked up by the off-tank and killed quickly. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Liquid Hell: Fire puddles placed under players that deal damage over time. Move out immediately to avoid standing in them.

Death Sentence: A heavy tankbuster on the main tank. Mitigate and prepare for frequent casts.

Plummet: Frontal cleave. Face the boss away from the party.

Strategy: Kill all adds first while avoiding Liquid Hell, then focus the boss until 85%.

Phase 2 (85% – 55%)

Fireball: Stack marker that splits damage between players. Ideally handled by 3–4 players.

Conflagration: Traps a player inside a fire dome that must be destroyed before it kills them.

Waxen Flesh: Buff gained from Fireball hits, reducing Conflagration timer duration.

Neurolink: A puddle dropped during transitions that reduces damage taken but applies penalties. These are required later.

Strategy: Split into two groups. Handle Fireball stacks carefully, then destroy Conflagrations quickly. Fireball can be intentionally absorbed by a Conflagration to reset timers.

Phase 3 (Divebomb Phase)

Divebomb: Targets a player and charges across the arena, dealing heavy damage and knockback. Being hit can knock players into the death wall.

Positioning: Stack in a designated safe spot, move out briefly when marked, then return.

Asclepius: A large add that must be tanked and killed.

Hygieia: Smaller adds that apply Vulnerability Up on death.

Strategy: Handle three divebombs, kill Hygieia first, then Asclepius. Repeat divebomb sequence, then finish remaining adds. Positioning is critical throughout.

Phase 4 (55% – 30%)

Aetheric Profusion: Raid-wide attack that kills anyone not standing in a Neurolink. All players must be inside puddles to survive.

Twister: Invisible mines spawn under players. If a player is not moving when they resolve, they explode and likely wipe the raid. Constant movement awareness is required.

Dreadknight: Targets a player and slowly walks toward them. If it reaches its target, that player dies instantly. Must be killed quickly.

Strategy: Spread out across the arena, constantly watch for Twister casts, and prioritize killing Dreadknights immediately.

Phase 5 (30% – 0%)

Hatch: A chasing orb targets a player. It must be absorbed inside a Neurolink to survive.

Liquid Hell (Enhanced): Multiple fire puddles placed rapidly on a player. Positioning is critical to avoid covering safe areas.

Strategy: The off-tank typically handles Hatch by standing in a Neurolink under the boss. Tanks must swap for Death Sentence, rotating Hatch responsibility. Manage Liquid Hell placement carefully to preserve space.

Encounter Flow

Phase 1: Kill adds and stabilize positioning.

Phase 3: Execute divebomb patterns and clear adds.
