Encounter Overview

Hippokampos (Savage) is the Savage version of the second encounter in Pandæmonium: Asphodelos. The fight expands on the platform-based mechanics introduced in Normal mode and introduces complex positional mechanics involving knockbacks, tether mechanics, and sequential player assignments.

Throughout the encounter the arena repeatedly floods, restricting movement to small platforms and narrow grates while the boss layers mechanics together.

The arena edge is lethal and will instantly kill any player who touches it.

Arena Layout

The battlefield consists of four raised platforms connected by grates.

Arena characteristics:

• four primary platforms
• narrow grates between platforms
• flooded arena phases
• lethal outer barrier

During flooded phases the platforms and grates are the only safe locations.

Boss Behavior Profile

Hippokampos combines arena control mechanics with player assignment mechanics.

The encounter features:

• raidwide damage
• tankbuster mechanics
• tether mechanics
• knockback positioning
• stack and spread mechanics
• multi-player sequence mechanics

Players must carefully manage positioning while the available safe space becomes limited.

Mechanic Archive

Phase 1

Murky Depths

Unavoidable raidwide damage.

Player Response

• Mitigate and heal through.

Doubled Impact

Shared tankbuster.

Player Response

• Both tanks stack and mitigate.

Sewage Deluge

Heavy raidwide damage that floods the arena.

Effects:

• water covers most of the arena
• only platforms and grates remain safe
• one platform becomes unsafe due to water eruption

Stepping into the water inflicts Dropsy, dealing heavy damage over time.

Spoken Cataract / Winged Cataract

The boss separates its head from its body.

Two attacks occur simultaneously:

Body Attack

Large line AoE indicated by a large directional arrow.

Head Attack

Half-arena attack.

• Spoken Cataract → fires from the front of the head
• Winged Cataract → fires from the back

Players must identify safe platforms and grates.

Coherence

The boss tethers to a player.

A tank must grab the tether and move away from the group.

After the cast:

• tethered tank takes heavy damage
• other tank is targeted
• party must share a line AoE behind the boss

Immediately followed by Murky Depths.

Ominous Bubbling

Both healers receive stack markers.

Players must form light parties (tank / healer / 2 DPS).

This applies Water Resistance Down II.

Shockwave

Hippokampos leaps to a platform and knocks players back.

Players must:

• stack for Ominous Bubbling
• prevent knockback into water
• use knockback mitigation or position carefully

Predatory Avarice

Three players receive debuffs.

Mark of the Depths

Large water AoE that must be shared.

Mark of the Tides

Point-blank AoE causing heavy knockback.

Players must position carefully after Cataract resolves.

After this mechanic the arena drains and returns to normal.

Phase 2

Channeling Overflow

Players receive directional knockback arrows.

Each player will move in the direction indicated.

Players must collide with the player opposite them to stop the movement.

Failure to do so launches players into the arena wall.

Players are stunned briefly afterward and gain Water Resistance Down II.

Immediately followed by Doubled Impact.

Sewage Deluge (Second Flood)

Arena floods again and one platform becomes unsafe.

Followed by Shockwave.

Kampeos Harma

Players receive numbered red or blue markers.

Blue markers:

• boss body jumps to the player

Red markers:

• boss head performs point-blank AoE

Attacks occur in sequence based on number.

Players must spread across platforms in assigned positions and rotate safely after each hit.

Players struck twice gain Physical Vulnerability Up and will die.

Channeling Overflow (Second Variant)

Players receive directional debuffs with short and long timers.

Players with long timers also receive Tainted Flood AoEs.

Players must alternate positions between platform edges and grates.

After both sets resolve the arena drains again.

Phase 3

Predatory Avarice (Second Use)

Players again resolve Depths and Tides mechanics.

Dissociation

The boss’s head detaches and fires a line attack across half the arena.

Players must move to the opposite side.

Sewage Eruption

Three waves of AoEs spawn under players.

Players should bait AoEs together before moving to safe space.

Tainted Flood

All players receive spread AoEs.

Players must spread immediately.

Coherence (Second Use)

A tank must take the tether and move away from the group.

Immediately followed by Doubled Impact.

Often handled using a tank invulnerability ability.

Channeling Overflow + Coherence

Directional knockbacks occur while Coherence is active.

Players must resolve knockbacks and quickly stack behind the boss.

Ominous Bubbling + Shockwave

Light party stacks occur again during a knockback mechanic.

Enrage

The boss eventually begins casting Sewage Deluge as a long cast.

If the boss is not defeated before the cast completes, the raid wipes.

Mechanic Sequence Pattern

Flood Phase Mechanics

Dissociation + AoE Pressure

Final Mechanic Combination

Enrage

The encounter emphasizes precise positioning and movement control while safe space becomes increasingly limited.

Role Pressure Analysis

Tanks

Tanks must manage shared tankbusters, tether mechanics, and positioning during platform phases.

Healers

Healers must sustain the raid through frequent raidwide damage and stack mechanics.

DPS

DPS must maintain uptime while managing platform positioning and sequential mechanics.

Failure Points

Common wipe causes include:

• incorrect positioning during Kampeos Harma
• knockbacks pushing players into the arena wall
• improper stack handling during Ominous Bubbling
• incorrect resolution of Channeling Overflow
• overlapping AoEs during Sewage Eruption.
