Encounter Overview

Chadarnook (Savage) transforms the encounter into a layered execution check built around simultaneous mechanics and strict sequencing. Unlike normal mode, players must manage paint resources, resolve overlapping painting effects, and respond to both Chadarnook and the Goddess acting at the same time.

The fight emphasizes correct ordering of actions, clean positioning, and role responsibility. Most failures occur from resolving mechanics out of sequence rather than missing them entirely.

For a full breakdown of raid difficulty across all tiers, see the FFXIV Raid Rankings.

Arena Overview

The encounter takes place in a square gallery with elemental paintings positioned at each cardinal. Canvases allow players to interact with mechanics using colored paint, adding a resource-management layer to the fight.

Unlike normal mode, multiple paintings can be active simultaneously, and both Chadarnook and the Goddess will control different elements at the same time, forcing players to resolve overlapping mechanics in a controlled sequence.

Boss Mechanics

Chadarnook & The Goddess

Demonic Howl

Frequent raid-wide damage that acts as pressure between mechanic sequences. Healing must remain consistent throughout the encounter.

Demonic Shear

Tankbuster on the main target. Often overlaps with other mechanics, requiring mitigation planning and positioning discipline.

Possession (Element Combos)

Multiple paintings activate simultaneously, requiring players to resolve mechanics in the correct order. Common patterns include:

  • Fire + Wind: Gain fire resistance first, then resolve stack mechanics.
  • Wind + Earth: Bait AoEs together, then control wind orbs with mounts.
  • Water + Wind + Earth: Create a boulder, hide, then reposition and clear orbs.

Correct sequencing is critical, as performing actions in the wrong order results in unavoidable damage or failure states.

Poltergeist

Summons a Reaper tethered to a healer. The add advances when not observed, forcing healers to manage facing direction while still handling other mechanics.

Divine Lure

A gaze mechanic from the Goddess. Players must look away while still managing other mechanics, often overlapping with Poltergeist positioning.

Demonic Pain

Pairs players with proximity tethers. Moving apart reduces damage, making spacing coordination essential.

Last Kiss

A transferable debuff that deals heavy damage on expiration. Typically passed to an off-tank to isolate and mitigate safely.

Demonic Storm / Flash Gale

Stack mechanics that occur alongside movement-heavy sequences. Players must regroup quickly after resolving positional mechanics.

Materialize

Creates a clone of Chadarnook that overlaps additional mechanics, significantly increasing execution pressure.

Lullaby

Applies raid-wide debuffs that reduce healing and resources. Players must collect multiple paint colors to summon Siren and cleanse the debuff, introducing coordination and assignment requirements.

Prey

Targets players with persistent AoE tracking. Affected players must move cleanly without disrupting group positioning.

Encounter Flow

The fight begins with controlled two-element combinations, teaching players how to sequence mechanics correctly using paint interactions.

Mid-fight introduces overlapping pressure through Poltergeist + Gaze + Tankbusters, forcing players to balance awareness and execution simultaneously.

Triple-element combinations define the core of the encounter, requiring players to resolve mechanics in strict order—typically resistance, then movement, then positioning tools. Misordering actions is the most common failure point.

The latter portion introduces clones and repeated overlaps, increasing mechanical density. Resource management, positioning discipline, and consistent execution become critical as the fight progresses toward enrage.

The encounter ends with a hard enrage if the boss is not defeated in time.
