Encounter Overview

Eden’s Verse: Iconoclasm is the third encounter of the Eden’s Verse raid tier introduced in patch 5.2 during the Shadowbringers expansion. The battle pits the raid against the Idol of Darkness, an entity that manipulates light and dark aspects alongside portal-based mechanics that redirect attacks across the arena.

The fight focuses heavily on lane-based movement, teleport positioning, and matching light and dark mechanics correctly. Many attacks involve predicting where attacks will appear rather than reacting at the last moment.

Arena Overview

The battle takes place on a rectangular platform divided into several vertical lanes. Players can fall from the edges of the arena and die, though they can be resurrected after a delay.

Many mechanics reference these lane divisions, particularly the various bird-like projectiles created by the Idol of Darkness. Understanding lane positioning is critical for avoiding damage throughout the encounter.

Mechanic Archive

Empty Wave

A raid-wide attack that sends a wave of dark energy across the arena.

Strategy:
• mitigate and heal through the raid damage
• prepare for follow-up mechanics that often occur immediately afterward.

Unshadowed Stake

A powerful tankbuster that tethers the main tank and fires a straight-line attack.

Strategy:
• the tank should aim the tether away from the raid
• use defensive cooldowns to survive the hit
• other players should avoid standing in the attack’s path.

Words of Motion

Bird-like clouds form at the northern edge of the arena and fire down specific lanes in sequence.

Strategy:
• identify which lanes will fire first
• step out of the first set of lanes
• after they fire, move into the now-cleared lanes to avoid the second set.

Red & Blue Portals

Portals appear in the center and on the sides of the arena, redirecting incoming bird-cloud projectiles.

Strategy:
• watch which bird enters which portal color
• stand in the lane that will not receive the first redirected attack
• once the first attack resolves, move into the newly safe lane.

Away With Thee

Players receive teleport markers that move them from their current circle to another location after a delay.

Strategy:
• position your starting circle carefully so the teleport lands in a safe location
• avoid teleporting into attacks or off the arena edge
• pre-position early rather than adjusting at the last second.

False Twilight

Random AoE circles appear beneath players.

Strategy:
• spread out quickly to avoid overlapping damage
• return to organized positioning once the AoEs resolve.

Silver Sledge

Two players receive stack markers that require group mitigation.

Strategy:
• split the raid into two groups
• each marked player should take one group
• do not stack both markers together.

Unjoined Aspect

Applies either a light or dark aspect to every player.

Strategy:
• note your assigned color immediately
• many upcoming mechanics require interacting with the opposite aspect.

Words of Night

Light and dark bird-clouds fire down lanes, interacting with player aspects.

Strategy:
• players must be hit by the opposite color of their current aspect
• doing so flips the aspect safely
• getting hit by the same color deals massive damage.

Idolatry Adds

Two large bird vortex adds spawn on opposite ends of the arena.

Strategy:
• tanks should pick up one add each
• stack the adds together for efficient damage
• both must die before they finish casting Explosion.

Strength In Numbers

Adds cast either donut-shaped or point-blank AoE attacks.

Strategy:
• move inside donut AoEs
• move away from point-blank AoEs
• combine this movement with the teleport mechanic from Away With Thee.

Silver Shot

AoE circles target every raid member.

Strategy:
• spread out across the arena
• avoid overlapping circles while maintaining awareness of upcoming add mechanics.

Empty Flood

A raid-wide attack used when the Idol of Darkness returns after the add phase.

Strategy:
• mitigate and heal through the damage
• prepare for the final sequence of mechanics.

Black Smoke

Meteor towers appear on opposite sides of the arena that must be soaked.

Strategy:
• players must stand inside each tower to prevent raid-wide damage
• combine tower soaking with the teleport positioning from Away With Thee
• ensure your teleport lands inside the tower if assigned.

Encounter Flow

The encounter begins with the Idol of Darkness introducing lane-based mechanics such as Words of Motion and portal interactions. Players must learn to track which lanes will be struck first and move accordingly. Teleport mechanics from Away With Thee add an extra layer of positioning complexity.

As the phase continues, players gain light or dark aspects through Unjoined Aspect. The raid must intentionally take the opposite-colored attack during Words of Night to flip their aspect safely.

The second phase introduces two Idolatry adds that must be defeated before they cast Explosion. During this phase the raid must simultaneously manage teleport positioning, donut and point-blank AoEs, and spreading mechanics.

After the adds are defeated, the Idol of Darkness returns and begins combining earlier mechanics together. Players must again resolve aspect interactions, portal redirects, and teleport positioning while soaking meteor towers during Black Smoke.

Once these mechanics have been demonstrated, the encounter enters a repeating cycle of earlier patterns until the boss is defeated.
