Encounter Overview
Voidwalker is the second encounter of Eden’s Gate, the first raid tier of the Eden raid series introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion.
The fight focuses heavily on directional attacks and delayed mechanics through the Spell In Waiting system. Players must react to line attacks, donut AoEs, and movement hazards while tracking delayed abilities that resolve seconds after being cast.
The encounter gradually introduces overlapping mechanics that test player awareness and timing.
Key mechanics include:
• line and donut AoE attacks
• Nyx Demon movement hazards
• delayed spell mechanics (Spell In Waiting)
• knockback positioning mechanics
• meteor soak mechanics
• gaze attacks requiring players to look away
Correct positioning and timing are essential for safely resolving the delayed spell mechanics that define the fight.
Arena Overview
The encounter takes place on a floating platform surrounded by a lethal boundary.
Players can fall from the arena during the fight. However, unlike many encounters, players who fall can be revived after a short delay.
Several mechanics require players to carefully position themselves near the edges of the platform while avoiding knockbacks that can push them off the arena.
Mechanic Archive
Doomvoid Guillotine
A large line AoE extending across the entire arena through Voidwalker.
Response
• move out of the telegraphed line attack
After the attack resolves, Nyx Demons spawn along the line and travel outward.
Response
• avoid the moving demons as they traverse the arena
Doomvoid Slicer
A large donut AoE centered on Voidwalker.
Response
• move inside the boss hitbox
After the attack resolves, Nyx Demons spawn around the boss and travel toward the center.
Response
• avoid the incoming demons
Shadowflame
Heavy tankbuster that targets both tanks simultaneously.
Response
• tanks mitigate the damage
• healers prepare for heavy incoming damage
Dark Fire III
Four players receive large circular AoE markers.
Response
• marked players spread away from the group
Unholy Darkness
Stack marker targeting a random player.
Response
• group together to share the damage
Phase 2 Mechanics
Spell In Waiting
Voidwalker delays the next cast ability.
Delayed abilities display a timer icon above affected players.
When the timer expires, the ability resolves.
Response
• track delayed mechanics carefully
• prepare to resolve overlapping mechanics
Dark Fire III (In Waiting)
Delayed spread markers placed on four players.
Response
• spread before the timer expires
Unholy Darkness (In Waiting)
Delayed stack marker.
Response
• group together when the timer completes
Entropy
Heavy raidwide damage.
Response
• mitigate and heal
Hand of Erebos
A large hand appears on the edge of the arena and knocks players across the platform.
Response
• move close to the hand
• or use knockback immunity
Punishing Ray
Multiple meteor pools appear around the arena.
Each pool must be soaked by a player.
Unsoaked pools cause heavy raid damage.
Response
• assign players to stand in pools
• healers manage bleed damage from standing inside
Shadow Eye
A gaze attack targeting one player.
Players looking directly at the marked target when the ability resolves are petrified.
Response
• turn away from the targeted player
Shadow Eye (In Waiting)
Delayed version of the gaze mechanic.
Response
• track the timer
• turn away before the ability resolves
Encounter Flow
The fight begins with Doomvoid Guillotine and Doomvoid Slicer, introducing line and donut attacks followed by Nyx Demon hazards that move across the arena.
Players must avoid these moving hazards while also resolving spread markers from Dark Fire III and stack markers from Unholy Darkness.
Phase two introduces Spell In Waiting, which delays abilities and causes mechanics to overlap.
Players must resolve combinations of delayed spread and stack mechanics while managing knockback attacks from Hand of Erebos.
Later in the encounter, Punishing Ray introduces meteor soak mechanics that force players to remain inside damaging pools while resolving delayed stack mechanics.
The fight concludes with overlapping gaze mechanics from Shadow Eye combined with Voidwalker’s directional attacks.
The encounter repeats these mechanics until Voidwalker is defeated.
