Encounter Overview

Phoinix (Savage) is the Savage version of the third encounter in Pandæmonium: Asphodelos. The fight expands significantly on the Normal encounter by introducing tighter positioning requirements, stricter add management, and multi-step fire mechanics that overlap aggressively.

The encounter is divided into three major phases, each adding new layers of complexity. Players must manage tether mechanics, soak patterns, rotating arena hazards, add phases, puddle mechanics, and strict healing checks.

The outer edge of the arena is covered in fire and instantly kills any player who touches it.

Arena Layout

The encounter takes place on a circular platform surrounded by a lethal ring of fire.

Arena characteristics:

• circular arena
• lethal edge
• rotating and expanding fire hazards
• add phase with multiple enemy placements
• tornado phase with directional baiting

Because many mechanics use the full arena, positioning discipline is critical throughout the encounter.

Boss Behavior Profile

Phoinix uses layered fire mechanics that combine:

• raidwide damage
• tether tankbusters
• rotating AoE patterns
• add management
• spread and stack mechanics
• puddle soaking mechanics
• directional baiting mechanics
• healing checks tied to debuffs

The encounter repeatedly forces players to split into assigned pairs and light parties.

Mechanic Archive

Phase 1

Scorched Exaltation

Unavoidable raidwide damage.

Player Response

• Party mitigation recommended
• Healers prepare raid recovery.

Heat of Condemnation

Tankbuster targeting two random players tethered to the boss.

Both tanks must take a tether and move away from the group.

The hit occurs in a wide AoE and applies Fire Resistance Down II.

Player Response

• Tanks each take one tether
• Tanks separate from the party
• Tanks mitigate heavily.

Experimental Fireplume

Two possible patterns:

Small Orbs

Several explosions rotate clockwise around the outer arena while a large explosion appears in the center.

Player Response

Move to the outer ring after the first explosion to avoid the pattern.

Large Orb

Massive AoE is baited in the center of the arena.

Player Response

Bait the AoE in the center, then move to the edges.

Left / Right Cinderwing

Cleave hitting the entire left or right side of the arena from the boss’s centerline outward.

Player Response

Move to the opposite side of the boss.

Darkened Fire + Brightened Fire

Players pair with assigned DPS partners and position at intercardinals near the center.

Either:

• all four DPS
or
• all tanks and healers

will drop Darkened Fire adds.

At the same time, Brightened Fire places numbered point-blank AoEs on players 1–8.

Players must resolve the AoEs in order near the Darkened Fire adds to debuff them and make them vulnerable.

Once all AoEs resolve:

• quickly kill the Darkened Fire adds before Darkened Blaze finishes.

This is followed by Heat of Condemnation and Scorched Exaltation.

Devouring Brand

Line AoEs appear at the four cardinal points of the arena edge and burn inward toward the center.

Touching them applies Burning, a heavy damage-over-time debuff.

Once the lines meet in the center, they expand.

This mechanic can overlap with Experimental Fireplume.

Player Response

Players must identify safe areas relative to both the line fire and the Fireplume pattern.

Searing Breeze

All players receive point-blank AoEs under their feet.

Player Response

• Stack first to bait
• Move out together to avoid the AoEs

This is followed by Left / Right Cinderwing, Heat of Condemnation, and another Experimental Fireplume.

Trail of Condemnation

Two possible patterns depending on which beak the boss uses.

Center Beak Fire

Boss breathes fire through the center of the arena while all players receive point-blank AoEs.

Player Response

Avoid the center and spread out.

Side Beaks Fire

Large line AoEs cover the outer two-thirds of the arena, leaving only the center safe.

At the same time either:

• all tanks and healers
or
• all DPS

receive AoE markers.

Players must spread in a line within the center safe zone while avoiding overlaps.

This attack applies Fire Resistance Down II, making multiple hits lethal.

Phase 2 – Sunbird Phase

Sunbird Adds

Four Sunbird adds spawn.

Tanks should each grab two and move them to opposite sides.

Players kill the adds one at a time in clockwise order.

The adds must remain separated, because overlapping their revive AoEs grants Damage Up and can lead to a wipe later.

Flames of Undeath

Raidwide damage that also revives defeated Sunbird adds.

Player Response

• Mitigate raidwide
• prepare for revived add mechanics.

Fireglide Sweep

Each Sunbird tethers to a player, and each tethered player also tethers to another player.

The adds leap:

  1. to the first tether target

  2. then to the second tether target

These leaps deal AoE damage and apply Blunt Resistance Down, making double hits lethal.

Player Response

• first tether targets move far away
• second tether targets position opposite them
• players spread enough to avoid overlapping leap AoEs.

After the attack, kill the adds again before the next Flames of Undeath.

Dead Rebirth

Raidwide damage after the adds revive again.

Following this:

• the revived adds auto-attack the player second on enmity
• off-tank should ensure they are second in enmity.

Immediately followed by Heat of Condemnation.

Fledgling Flight / Ashen Eye

The adds target either:

• all tanks and healers
or
• all DPS

The targeted players must turn the adds outward toward the arena edge.

If the adds are too close together they tether and explode, wiping the raid.

Ashen Eye

Each add fires a conal AoE in the direction it is facing.

Experimental Gloryplume

This mechanic combines fire and dark orb patterns.

Large Dark Orb

Random tank and healer are targeted.

Players must split into their assigned light parties and move to opposite edges.

Small Dark Orbs

Players must spread out to avoid overlapping point-blank AoEs.

This occurs with either the large or small fire orb patterns from Experimental Fireplume.

Fountain of Fire

Eight puddles spawn in pairs around the arena, tethered to the boss.

If a player stands in a puddle, the tether transfers to them.

When the puddle explodes:

• player inside takes heavy percentage damage
• player gains Trickle of Fire, greatly increasing healing received.

If no player soaks a puddle, the boss gains Damage Up.

At the same time, the boss casts Sun’s Pinion.

Sun’s Pinion

Two closest players to the boss receive AoE markers.

These later summon firebird adds that tether to those players and dash through them.

The tether must be stretched until it turns purple.

The tethered player takes heavy damage and gains Fire Resistance Down II.

Any player hit by the dash also gains Fire Resistance Down II and cannot soak a puddle safely afterward.

Standard Resolution

• Healers soak the puddles for the healing buff
• melee DPS take first Sun’s Pinion markers
• ranged DPS take second
• tanks take third

After this mechanic, Phoinix uses Scorched Exaltation twice followed by Heat of Condemnation.

Phase 3

Firestorms of Asphodelos

Heavy raidwide damage that summons three Darkblaze Twister tornado adds.

Flames of Asphodelos

Phoinix drops multiple conal AoEs in sequence.

Player Response

Stand in the second set, then move into the safe area created when the first set resolves.

Experimental Ashplume

Same dark orb mechanic as Experimental Gloryplume.

Large Dark Orb

Stack in assigned groups.

Small Dark Orbs

Spread out.

Followed immediately by another Flames of Asphodelos.

Storms of Asphodelos

This mechanic combines tornado baiting, tank tethers, and boss cleaves.

Tornadoes aim conal AoEs at the closest player.

At the same time:

• boss tethers to two players for heavy damage
• boss cleaves the last three players

Standard Resolution

• two healers + one ranged stand near the tornadoes to bait them outward
• both tanks take the tethers and stand in front of two tornadoes
• remaining three DPS stand near boss hitbox edges to bait cleaves away

Getting hit by extra attacks applies Fire Resistance Down II, making additional damage lethal.

Darkblaze Twister

Boss tethers to all tornadoes, with one tether colored black.

Then:

  1. boss casts Searing Breeze

  2. players bait clockwise around the arena ending in front of the black tether tornado

  3. boss casts Experimental Ashplume

  4. black tether tornado knocks players back

  5. other tornadoes cast large donut AoEs with safe zones inside their hitboxes

Players must use the black tether knockback to land safely near the other tornado hitboxes while also resolving stack or spread from Ashplume.

Death’s Toll

All players receive:

• 1
• 2
or
• 4 stacks of Death’s Toll

The number indicates how many times the player must be hit before the debuff is satisfied.

At the same time, adds are dropped on players again and must be turned inward.

With correct positioning, players can intentionally take the correct number of hits.

Life’s Agonies

After Death’s Toll resolves, players must quickly heal to full HP.

When Life’s Agonies finishes casting:

• any player not at full HP dies.

This is a major healing check.

Final Sequence

After Death’s Toll / Life’s Agonies, the boss cycles through:

• Experimental Gloryplume
• Trail of Condemnation
• Devouring Brand + Experimental Fireplume
• Searing Breeze
• Left / Right Cinderwing
• two Scorched Exaltations

Enrage

Phoinix finally casts Final Exaltation.

The boss must be defeated before the cast completes or the raid wipes.

Final mechanic loop

Final Exaltation enrage

The fight emphasizes assigned pairs, light party structure, add management, and heavy healing checks.

Role Pressure Analysis

Tanks

Tanks must handle tether tankbusters, Sunbird add control, and positional responsibility during multiple mechanics.

Healers

Healers face sustained raidwide pressure, puddle soaking responsibility, and one of the most important healing checks in the tier during Life’s Agonies.

DPS

DPS must maintain uptime while handling precise positioning, add priority, and partner-based mechanics.

Failure Points

Common wipe causes include:

• Darkened Fire adds not dying in time
• incorrect spacing during Trail of Condemnation
• overlapping Sunbird revive zones
• failed puddle soaks during Fountain of Fire
• poor positioning during Storms of Asphodelos
• unresolved Death’s Toll stacks
• failing to fully heal before Life’s Agonies.
