Encounter Overview

Erichthonios is the first encounter of the Asphodelos raid tier in the Pandæmonium raid series. As the opening battle of Endwalker’s raid storyline, the fight introduces players to the mechanics and encounter structure used throughout the Pandæmonium raids.

The encounter focuses on arena control mechanics, raidwide attacks, and targeted abilities that test the party’s ability to reposition quickly while maintaining damage uptime.

Arena Layout

The battle takes place within a circular arena inside Pandæmonium.

Arena characteristics include:

• large circular battlefield
• directional attacks
• arena hazard zones
• positional mechanics affecting multiple players

Players must frequently reposition around the arena while responding to telegraphed attacks.

Boss Behavior Profile

Erichthonios uses a combination of raidwide damage, directional attacks, and positional mechanics that require the party to spread or stack depending on the incoming ability.

The encounter features:

• raidwide damage attacks
• directional arena cleaves
• targeted player markers
• arena hazard placement

Mechanic Archive

Gaoler’s Flail

Erichthonios spins his flail in either his left or right hand, striking the entire side of the arena corresponding to that direction.

Telegraph

• Boss raises and spins the flail on one side
• Cast bar appears early in the encounter

Player Response

• Move to the opposite side of the arena from the spinning flail.

Later in the encounter this ability is used without a cast bar during other mechanics, particularly during Intemperate Torrent and Aetherchain.

Players must watch the boss’s animation rather than relying on the cast bar.

Pitiless Flail

Erichthonios targets a random player with a line AoE that tracks the target.

When the attack resolves:

• The targeted player is knocked back
• Anyone caught in the line is also knocked back

Immediately afterward the targeted player receives a stack marker.

Player Response

Targeted player:

• Move close to the boss to avoid being knocked off the platform
• Alternatively use knockback immunity

Other players:

• Avoid standing in the line AoE
• Collapse quickly for the follow-up stack marker

Heavy Hand

Tankbuster ability.

Player Response

• Tank mitigation required
• Off-tank should be prepared to recover aggro if necessary.

Warden’s Wrath

Large raidwide damage ability.

Player Response

• Party mitigation recommended
• Healers prepare raidwide recovery.

Intemperance

Erichthonios applies elemental debuffs to all players.

Players receive either:

Hot Spell (fire)
Cold Spell (ice)

The arena becomes divided into four quadrants, each containing three stacked elemental crystals.

Each crystal stack explodes sequentially during the next mechanic.

Intemperate Torrent

Erichthonios casts three sequential elemental explosions.

During each cast:

• The bottom crystal of each quadrant detonates
• The element corresponds to the crystal color.

Players struck by the same element as their debuff take heavy damage.

Players must therefore alternate elements between explosions.

Example flow:

1️⃣ Start with Fire debuff

→ Stand in a quadrant where the bottom crystal is Ice

2️⃣ Debuff changes to Ice

→ Move to a quadrant where the bottom crystal is Fire

3️⃣ Debuff swaps again

→ Move to the opposite element again.

Standing on the purple cross between quadrants during explosions results in instant death.

Intemperance + Flail Combination

After the first Intemperance phase, Erichthonios adds Gaoler’s Flail to the mechanic.

This makes half the arena unsafe while crystals explode.

Players must:

1️⃣ Identify the safe half of the arena from the flail
2️⃣ Find the correct elemental quadrant within that half

This creates the primary positioning challenge of the encounter.

Shining Cells

This ability transitions the encounter into a new mechanic phase.

Effects:

• Raidwide damage
• Arena size shrinks
• Floor divides into alternating red and blue wedges

Aetherchain

Colored orbs circle around Erichthonios.

When the cast completes:

• All wedges matching the orb color explode

Player Response

Move to a wedge of the opposite color.

Aetherflail

Later versions of Aetherchain combine with Gaoler’s Flail.

During this mechanic:

• Colored wedges explode
• Half the arena is struck by Gaoler’s Flail simultaneously.

Player Response

Players must locate:

• A wedge with the safe color
• On the safe side of the arena

Slam Shut

Final raidwide ability that ends the Shining Cells phase.

Deals unavoidable raidwide damage.

Mechanic Sequence Pattern

The Erichthonios encounter follows this general flow:

Raidwide → Flail Mechanics

Pitiless Flail Knockback + Stack

Intemperance Elemental Puzzle

Flail + Intemperance Combination

Shining Cells Arena Change

Aetherchain Wedge Mechanics

Aetherflail Combined Mechanics

Slam Shut

The encounter emphasizes positional awareness and elemental puzzle mechanics, preparing players for the more complex mechanics later in the Asphodelos raid tier.

Role Pressure Analysis

Tanks

Tanks must maintain stable boss positioning while mitigating incoming damage from tank-focused attacks.

Healers

Healers must recover the party following raidwide attacks and support players affected by targeted mechanics.

DPS

Damage dealers must maintain uptime while repositioning for directional mechanics and arena hazards.

Failure Points

Common causes of wipes include:

• players caught inside directional attacks
• incorrect positioning during arena hazards
• overlapping player markers
• insufficient healing following raidwide damage

Encounter Summary

The Erichthonios encounter introduces the foundational raid mechanics used throughout the Asphodelos tier. Players must respond quickly to arena mechanics while maintaining proper positioning around the battlefield.

Parties that maintain awareness of incoming telegraphs and coordinate movement effectively will be able to defeat Erichthonios and progress deeper into Pandæmonium.
