Encounter Overview

Howling Blade is the fourth encounter of Arcadion: Cruiserweight.

The fight centers on rapid multi-mechanic attack chains built around the boss’s clone abilities and directional cleaves. Players must identify safe quadrants, reposition quickly, and resolve overlapping AoEs while maintaining awareness of knockback risks.

The encounter contains:

• clone attack patterns
• directional half-room cleaves
• line AoE formations
• knockback mechanics
• an add phase with coordinated raid damage
• a faster second phase on a smaller arena

The arena is surrounded by a dangerous boundary that inflicts Bleeding, and players can also fall from the platform if knocked off.

Arena Overview

The arena is a square platform with lethal boundaries.

Hazards include:

• knockbacks that can launch players off the arena
• bleeding damage if touching the arena edge
• shrinking arena space during Phase 2

Positioning and quick movement are essential throughout the fight.

Boss Behavior Profile

Howling Blade uses fast combinations of:

• clone-based attacks
• directional cleaves
• line AoEs
• spread and stack mechanics

Many abilities resolve in sequence, requiring players to identify the correct safe quadrant early and reposition before later attacks trigger.

Mechanic Archive

Phase 1

Extraplanar Pursuit

Raidwide physical damage.

Player Response

• mitigate and heal

Great Divide

Line stack tankbuster aimed at the main tank.

Player Response

• both tanks stack together to split the damage

Wolves’ Reign

A multi-step combo attack.

Sequence includes:

  1. small point-blank AoE around the boss

  2. three shades appear facing different directions, creating delayed circle AoEs near arena edges

  3. the boss jumps to one of the AoE locations and uses a fast line AoE

  4. the boss dashes to the opposite side of the arena

  5. a wide conal AoE resolves, knocking back anyone hit

Player Response

• move out of the initial point-blank AoE
• avoid edge circle AoEs
• dodge the line attack after the boss jumps
• avoid the final cone and knockback

Heavensearth

Stack marker on a random player.

Deals magical damage.

Player Response

• stack together and mitigate

Beckon Moonlight

Four Moonlit Shadow clones appear at each cardinal direction.

Each clone indicates a half-room cleave based on which side of its sword it raises.

The cleaves resolve in spawn order, either clockwise or counterclockwise.

Player Response

• move to the quadrant safe from the first two cleaves
• then cross diagonally to the opposite safe quadrant for the final two

Shadowchase

The boss disappears and summons five clones in a pentagon formation.

Each clone fires a frontal line AoE.

Player Response

• move behind any clone to avoid the frontal attack

Bare Fangs

The boss repositions Gleaming Fang implements into a line.

Two glow first and fire Fanged Charge line AoEs.

Afterward the remaining two fire.

Player Response

• identify which lines activate first
• move into safe gaps between charges

Terrestrial Rage

Three sets of circle AoEs appear beneath random players.

Immediately followed by another Heavensearth stack marker.

Player Response

• spread for the circles
• regroup quickly for the stack

Adds Phase

Tactical Pack

The boss becomes untargetable and summons two adds:

Wolf of Stone
Wolf of Wind

Both must be defeated before the Saber Intensity gauge reaches 100.

Tanks can stack the adds together for efficient damage.

Weal of Stone / Weal of Wind

Each add uses a frontal line AoE.

These resolve at the same time as player-targeted mechanics.

Gust

Spread markers appear on all players.

Heavensearth

Stack marker instead of spreads in some sequences.

Both Gust and Heavensearth deal heavy damage.

Player Response

• heavy mitigation recommended
• stacking together reduces incoming damage

Once both adds are defeated, the boss returns and Phase 2 begins.

Phase 2

Ravenous Saber

Five hits of physical raidwide damage.

The arena shrinks at the same time.

Player Response

• heavy mitigation and healing required

Hungry for Victory

The boss gains a buff that causes mechanics to occur faster than in Phase 1.

Wolves’ Reign (Enhanced)

Similar combo as Phase 1 but faster.

Additional Weal of Stone line AoEs appear during the sequence.

The final frontal cleave can knock players off the arena.

Player Response

• quickly reposition between attacks
• consider knockback resistance

Terrestrial Titans

Three large stone pillars spawn.

The boss uses Titanic Pursuit, slicing each pillar.

The pillars fall as untelegraphed line AoEs depending on the direction of the cut.

Three sets of pillars appear.

Player Response

• identify the direction each pillar will fall
• move into safe lanes between falling pillars

Bare Fangs + Wolves’ Reign

Line AoEs from drones resolve first.

Immediately afterward the Wolves’ Reign combo begins.

Player Response

• dodge the line attacks first
• reposition for Wolves’ Reign afterward

Shadowchase (Enhanced)

Five clones appear as before.

Each clone also summons a Wolf of Wind that performs Roaring Wind, another frontal line AoE.

Player Response

• move behind a clone to avoid both line attacks

Tracking Tremors

Five-hit magical stack marker on a random player.

Player Response

• stack and mitigate

Beckon Moonlight + Terrestrial Rage

Moonlit Shadow clones perform half-room cleaves again.

Four Wolf of Stone adds also fire line AoEs in a plus-shaped pattern.

Afterward the Terrestrial Rage player AoEs resolve.

This sequence occurs much faster than earlier mechanics.

Player Response

• move to the safe quadrant immediately
• dodge the line AoEs
• spread for player-targeted circles

Mechanic Loop

After the enhanced mechanics resolve, the fight repeats combinations of:

• Wolves’ Reign
• clone attacks
• pillar mechanics
• spread and stack markers

The boss continues cycling these attacks until defeated.

Role Pressure Analysis

Tanks

Tanks handle split tankbusters, maintain positioning during clone mechanics, and control add placement during Tactical Pack.

Healers

Healers must handle frequent raidwide damage and stabilize the party through repeated stack mechanics.

DPS

DPS players must quickly reposition during clone sequences and defeat the add phase before the Saber Intensity gauge fills.

Failure Points

Common wipes occur from:

• misreading Moonlit Shadow cleave directions
• standing in line AoEs from clones
• being knocked off the arena during Wolves’ Reign
• slow add kills during Tactical Pack
• poor positioning during Terrestrial Titans pillar falls

Difficulty Profile

Category Rating
Mechanical Complexity High
Movement Requirement High
Coordination Requirement Moderate
Punishment Severity High

Howling Blade focuses heavily on fast reaction movement and directional awareness, especially during Phase 2 when mechanics occur at an accelerated pace.

Encounter Intelligence Summary

M8N – Howling Blade serves as the final normal encounter of Arcadion Cruiserweight and tests players on quick positional adjustments. Mastering the clone-based attack patterns and pillar mechanics allows groups to stabilize the fight quickly despite the increased pace of the second phase.
