The First Era of High-End Raids in Final Fantasy XIV
← Back to the Guild Raid Archive
The A Realm Reborn expansion introduced the first large-scale raid encounters in Final Fantasy XIV, establishing the foundation for the raid design philosophy that would shape future expansions.
These raids explore the lingering consequences of the Seventh Umbral Calamity, the secrets of the Allagan Empire, and the ancient technology hidden across Eorzea.
Raid content introduced during this era falls into two categories:
• 8-player progression raids centered on the Bahamut storyline
• 24-player alliance raids exploring the Crystal Tower
Together, these encounters form the earliest chapter of the Tavern Raid Archive.
ARR Raid Structure
Raid content in A Realm Reborn was divided between traditional eight-player raid encounters and large-scale alliance raids.
| Raid Type | Party Size | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 8-Player Raids | 8 Players | Coordinated endgame progression encounters |
| Alliance Raids | 24 Players | Large-scale cooperative raids with multiple parties |
Eight-player raids emphasize coordinated mechanics and strict execution, while alliance raids focus on larger battlefield encounters involving three separate parties working together.
8-Player Raid Series
The primary raid storyline of A Realm Reborn follows the Coils of Bahamut, a sequence of raid tiers that reveal the truth behind the fall of Dalamud and the fate of Bahamut.
| Raid Tier | Encounters | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Binding Coil of Bahamut | 5 | 50 |
| Second Coil of Bahamut | 4 | 50 |
| Final Coil of Bahamut | 4 | 50 |
These raids were originally designed as high-difficulty encounters and remain some of the earliest examples of structured raid progression in Final Fantasy XIV.
Savage versions of the Second Coil encounters were later introduced to provide an additional challenge for experienced groups.
24-Player Alliance Raids
A Realm Reborn also introduced the Crystal Tower alliance raid series, large-scale encounters designed for three eight-player parties.
These raids explore the mysterious Allagan structure known as the Crystal Tower and its role in the history of Eorzea.
| Alliance Raid | Players | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Labyrinth of the Ancients | 24 | 50 |
| Syrcus Tower | 24 | 50 |
| World of Darkness | 24 | 50 |
Alliance raids emphasize battlefield awareness and multi-party coordination rather than the tightly scripted mechanics of eight-player raids.
