Encounter Overview

The Whorleater (Extreme) is the high-end trial version of the Leviathan encounter from
A Realm Reborn. The fight revolves around controlling the battlefield while managing
platform mechanics, add phases, and Leviathan’s powerful dive attacks.

Players must react quickly to Leviathan’s dives, defeat supporting Sahagin enemies,
and correctly manage the elemental converters to survive Tsunami attacks. Failure to
destroy key adds or activate the converter will cause Tsunami to wipe the party.

Arena Overview

The encounter takes place on a rectangular floating platform surrounded by open ocean.
Early in the fight the arena railings protect players from falling off the platform,
but these railings are destroyed later in the encounter.

Once the railings break, several mechanics can knock players off the arena entirely,
making positioning and awareness critical for the remainder of the fight.

Mechanic Archive

Body Slam

Leviathan submerges and reappears on one side of the platform, slamming into the arena
and pulling players toward that edge. A geyser animation marks the location of the
incoming attack.

Players should immediately run to the opposite side of the platform to avoid being
knocked off the arena once the railings are destroyed.

Spinning Dive

Leviathan leaps across the arena in a straight line after emerging from a geyser.
Water spheres falling from above signal this attack. Anyone standing in the path
takes heavy damage and is pushed across the platform.

Veil of the Whorl

When Leviathan splits into separate head and tail targets, each section gains a
damage reflection mechanic.

  • Head reflects physical ranged attacks.
  • Tail reflects magical attacks.

Melee attacks function normally against both targets.

Briny Mirror

One tank will periodically receive the Briny Mirror debuff. Healing this target
applies a stacking debuff called Briny Veil to the healer that
reduces healing effectiveness.

If Briny Veil reaches sixteen stacks the healer becomes unable to act, so healers
must alternate healing duties on the affected tank.

Wavetooth Sahagin

These adds appear during several phases and must be defeated quickly. If they
remain alive too long they will begin using extremely dangerous abilities that
can overwhelm the party.

Gyre Spume

These adds reduce the strength of the elemental converter used to survive
Tsunami. Allowing them to live too long can prevent the party from activating
the converter in time.

Elemental Converter

A central device used to generate a protective barrier against Tsunami. Players
must activate the converter after destroying the Gyre Spume to survive the
incoming attack.

Tsunami

A massive arena-wide attack used by Leviathan. The elemental converter must be
activated beforehand or the entire party will be wiped.

Platform Destruction

During later phases the arena railings are destroyed. From this point onward,
knockback mechanics such as Body Slam and Spinning Dive can push players off
the platform entirely.

Hard Enrage

If Leviathan is not defeated before the final Tsunami sequence in the last phase,
the attack will instantly kill the entire party and reset the encounter.

Encounter Flow

Phase 1

The fight begins with the platform railings intact, allowing players some margin
for error when dealing with dive mechanics.

After losing roughly ten percent of his health Leviathan submerges and performs
Body Slam before splitting into separate head and tail targets. Players must
balance damage between the two while respecting the Veil of the Whorl reflection
mechanic.

Phase 2

Add phases begin during this stage. Wavetooth Sahagin and Gyre Spumes appear and
must be defeated quickly so the elemental converter can be activated before
Tsunami resolves.

After surviving Tsunami the arena railings break, greatly increasing the danger
of Leviathan’s knockback mechanics.

Phase 3

Leviathan repeats his dive patterns and add mechanics with increased pressure.
Players must quickly defeat the remaining adds and focus damage on Leviathan
before the final Tsunami cast completes.

If the party fails to defeat Leviathan before the second Tsunami during this
phase, the attack will wipe the entire group.
