FFXIV Titan ARR

The Navel (Hard) Trial Guide

The Navel (Hard) is a level 50 trial introduced in A Realm Reborn. In this encounter, players face Titan, the Lord of Crags, in an expanded version of the original Navel battle. The encounter introduces powerful knockback mechanics, destructive arena changes, and the critical Titan’s Heart phase, where players must defeat the exposed core before Titan unleashes his ultimate attack.

The fight emphasizes positioning and awareness, as many of Titan’s abilities can knock players off the arena platform.

Encounter Overview

The Navel (Hard) builds on the original Titan encounter by introducing additional mechanics including bomb patterns, repeated knockback attacks, and the Granite Gaol imprisonment mechanic.

Throughout the fight, the arena becomes progressively smaller as Titan destroys the outer edges of the platform. Players must avoid being knocked off the arena while resolving Titan’s increasingly dangerous attacks.

Arena Analysis

The battle takes place on a circular stone platform suspended above a vast drop. Unlike many other encounters, falling from the platform results in defeat unless the player is later resurrected.

During the fight, Titan repeatedly uses Geocrush, which removes portions of the arena and reduces the available fighting space.

Because many mechanics involve knockbacks or forced movement, careful positioning is critical throughout the encounter.

Phase Structure

Phase One (100% – ~85%)

Titan uses his core attacks while preparing the arena for later phases.

Phase Two (~85% – 55%)

Titan begins introducing additional mechanics including ground explosions and repeated raidwide attacks.

Phase Three – Heart Phase (~55%)

Titan’s Heart appears and must be destroyed before he unleashes Earthen Fury.

Phase Four (After Earthen Fury)

Titan resumes attacking with more aggressive patterns and gains additional abilities.

Boss Mechanics

Rock Buster

Type: Tank attack

How to Recognize It

  • Titan strikes his primary target.

What It Does

Deals moderate damage to Titan’s current target.

Why It’s Dangerous

Repeated hits can place pressure on the tank and healers.

Landslide

Type: Linear knockback attack

How to Recognize It

  • A rectangular line indicator appears in front of Titan.

What It Does

Deals damage and knocks players backward.

Why It’s Dangerous

Players struck by the attack may be knocked off the arena.

How Players Handle It

Players must move out of the line before the attack resolves.

Tumult

Type: Repeated raidwide damage

How to Recognize It

  • Titan repeatedly stomps the ground.

What It Does

Deals damage to the entire party multiple times in succession.

Why It’s Dangerous

Repeated hits can strain healing resources.

Geocrush

Type: Arena-wide leap attack

How to Recognize It

  • Titan jumps into the air and a large circular marker appears around the arena.

What It Does

Titan crashes down into the arena, dealing damage based on proximity to the center.

Why It’s Dangerous

The outer edge of the arena is destroyed after the attack.

How Players Handle It

Players should remain inside the safe zone while avoiding the center of the arena.

Weight of the Land

Type: Targeted ground AoE

How to Recognize It

  • Sand-like markers appear beneath several players.

What It Does

The marked areas explode after a short delay.

Why It’s Dangerous

Players caught in the explosions take heavy damage.

How Players Handle It

Players must move away from the marked locations.

Bomb Boulders

Type: Sequential explosion mechanic

How to Recognize It

  • Bombs appear across the arena floor.

What It Does

The bombs explode in the order they appear.

Why It’s Dangerous

Incorrect positioning can leave players trapped between explosions.

How Players Handle It

Players must observe the order the bombs appear and move to safe areas.

Rock Throw / Granite Gaol

Type: Player imprisonment mechanic

How to Recognize It

  • A marker appears beneath a targeted player.

What It Does

The player becomes trapped inside a stone prison.

Why It’s Dangerous

The trapped player cannot act until freed.

How Players Handle It

Other players must destroy the Granite Gaol to free the trapped player.

Titan’s Heart

Type: Phase objective

How to Recognize It

  • Titan becomes invulnerable and his heart appears.

What It Does

Players must destroy the heart before Titan casts Earthen Fury.

Why It’s Dangerous

If the heart is not destroyed in time, Titan’s ultimate attack will wipe the party.

Earthen Fury

Type: Signature raidwide attack

How to Recognize It

  • Titan begins casting Earthen Fury.

What It Does

Deals extremely heavy damage to the entire party.

Why It’s Dangerous

If Titan’s Heart remains alive, the attack will instantly defeat the party.

Mountain Buster

Type: Heavy tank attack

How to Recognize It

  • Titan prepares a powerful strike toward his primary target.

What It Does

Deals heavy damage to the tank.

Why It’s Dangerous

This attack places significant pressure on the tank during the final phase.

Mechanic Interaction Notes

Later phases combine Bomb Boulders, Weight of the Land, and Landslide attacks in rapid succession. Because the arena becomes smaller as the fight progresses, positioning mistakes become increasingly punishing.

Knockback mechanics remain the greatest threat throughout the encounter.

Role Pressure Analysis

Tank Pressure

The tank must withstand repeated tank attacks while maintaining safe positioning for the group.

Healer Pressure

Repeated Tumult attacks and heavy damage during Earthen Fury can require rapid healing recovery.

DPS Pressure

DPS players must destroy Titan’s Heart quickly to prevent the encounter’s enrage attack.

Common Failure Points

Wipes during this encounter commonly occur when:

  • players are knocked off the arena by Landslide

  • players remain inside Weight of the Land explosions

  • players fail to observe Bomb Boulder explosion patterns

  • Titan’s Heart is not destroyed before Earthen Fury
