Encounter Overview
The Limitless Blue (Hard) is a level 57 trial introduced in Heavensward where players battle the
primal Bismarck, Lord of the Mists. Unlike most trials, the majority of the encounter does not
involve attacking the primal directly. Instead, players must manage waves of adds, defend the
floating island platform, and expose Bismarck’s vulnerable carapace using environmental mechanics.
The battle takes place on a floating island with its own health bar. If the island takes too much
damage, the encounter ends in failure. Players must therefore balance defeating enemies, activating
defensive mechanisms, and damaging Bismarck during the limited windows when he becomes vulnerable.
Arena Overview
The encounter takes place on a floating island with open edges. Falling from the platform results in
instant death. The island itself also has its own HP bar which represents the stability of the
platform.
Two key devices are present on the platform:
- Shield Generator – Used to protect the island from Bismarck’s charge attack.
- Harpoons – Used to chain Bismarck to the island and expose his carapace.
Correctly timing the use of these devices is essential for controlling the encounter.
Mechanic Archive
Cetacean Rage
Bismarck signals his charge attack with a dive animation and begins casting Cetacean Rage.
Activating the shield generator during this cast protects the island from most of the incoming
damage. If the shield is not activated in time, the island will suffer heavy damage.
Harpoon Mechanic
At specific intervals both harpoons on the platform become active. Players must activate them to
chain Bismarck to the island. Once chained, players can board the primal and attack his
Chitin Carapace.
If the carapace is not destroyed quickly enough, Bismarck will break free and repeat the earlier
mechanics.
Chitin Carapace
The Chitin Carapace is Bismarck’s protective armor. Players must jump onto the primal’s back and
attack the carapace directly while it is chained. While standing on Bismarck players will take a
minor damage-over-time effect.
Destroying the carapace exposes Bismarck’s vulnerable core for the remainder of the encounter.
Platform Integrity
The island platform has its own HP bar. If it falls below roughly 25% durability the encounter will
fail. Bismarck’s charges and certain mechanics directly damage the island, making proper shield
timing critical.
Vundu Adds
During early phases Bismarck summons Vundu adds that use knockback attacks and AoEs. These enemies
must be defeated quickly while players avoid being pushed off the platform.
Sanuwa Adds
Later in the fight two powerful Sanuwa enemies appear. These adds tether together if placed too
close, gaining a strong damage reduction effect. Tanks must keep them separated while the party
defeats them.
Tornadoes
Cyclones appear across the platform during the add phases and must be avoided while players deal
with the enemies.
Exploding Bubbles
Bismarck occasionally summons floating bubbles that detonate after a short delay. Players should
avoid standing near these explosions.
Breach Blast
Bismarck’s ultimate attack during the mid-fight transition. This deals heavy raid-wide damage and
destroys the shield generator for the remainder of the encounter.
Weather Mechanics
During the final phase Bismarck alternates between thunder and rain weather effects which interact
with special Vapor Bubble adds.
- Thunder Weather – Destroying Vapor Bubbles causes lightning strikes to hit
random players. - Rain Weather – Leaving Vapor Bubbles alive during this phase causes them to
gain a damage buff.
Vapor Bubbles
These special adds appear during the final phase. Their behavior changes depending on the current
weather effect, making timing their destruction important for controlling incoming damage.
Encounter Flow
Phase 1
The fight begins with Bismarck attacking the platform and summoning Vundu adds. Players defeat the
adds while preparing for Bismarck’s charge attack. When Cetacean Rage begins casting, the shield
generator must be activated to reduce damage to the island.
After some time the harpoons activate. Using them chains Bismarck to the island and allows players
to board him and attack the Chitin Carapace.
Phase 2
Once the carapace is destroyed Bismarck retreats and summons two large Sanuwa adds. Tanks must keep
these enemies separated while the party defeats them. Tornadoes and explosive bubbles also appear
during this stage.
After the adds are defeated Bismarck returns and casts Breach Blast, destroying the
shield generator and transitioning into the final phase.
Phase 3
The final phase functions similarly to the opening phase but with increased pressure. Without the
shield generator the island can no longer be protected from Bismarck’s charges, creating a hard
limit on how long the fight can continue.
Vapor Bubble adds now appear and interact with alternating thunder and rain weather mechanics.
Players must manage these adds while dealing damage to Bismarck’s exposed core when he is chained.
