Encounter Overview
The Jade Stoa is the level 70 trial featuring Byakko, introduced in Stormblood. This encounter combines traditional raid mechanics with a unique mid-fight free-fall phase, requiring strong movement control and spatial awareness.
The fight progresses through two main combat phases separated by a transitional falling sequence. Players must handle stack mechanics, directional AoEs, and overlapping patterns while maintaining awareness of positioning throughout the encounter.
Arena Overview
The fight begins on a circular arena where the outer edge is safe. However, during the Free-Fall Phase, the outer boundary becomes lethal, and players must carefully navigate mid-air mechanics.
The final phase returns to a standard circular arena, where mechanics begin overlapping at a faster pace.
Mechanic Archive
Storm Pulse
A raidwide AoE that deals unavoidable damage to all players.
Heavenly Strike
A heavy tankbuster targeting the main tank. Mitigation cooldowns are required.
State of Shock
Byakko grabs a player and prepares to slam them into a marked location. The party must stack in the marker to share damage or the targeted player will be killed.
Sweep the Leg
A massive frontal cone AoE covering most of the arena. The only safe zone is directly behind Byakko. This always follows State of Shock.
Unrelenting Anguish
Byakko moves to the center and releases slow-moving orbs outward. Players must weave between these while handling additional mechanics.
Fire and Lightning
A large line AoE targeting random players. This is often combined with other mechanics, requiring careful positioning and awareness.
Hakutei
A secondary enemy that must be tanked during Phase 1. It performs cleaves and introduces additional AoE pressure on the arena.
White Herald
A proximity marker placed on a player. The party must move away from the target to reduce incoming damage from Hakutei’s slam.
Roar of Thunder
A raidwide attack that scales based on Hakutei’s remaining HP. The faster Hakutei is defeated, the safer the transition.
Free-Fall Mechanics
During the transition, players fall through the air while dodging multiple hazards:
- Line AoEs from Hakutei
- Donut AoEs requiring movement toward the center
- Projectile orbs from below
Hundredfold Havoc
Directional lightning AoEs that fire outward in patterns. Players must identify safe zones and reposition between sequential waves.
Bombogenesis
AoE markers placed on multiple players. Marked players must spread to avoid overlapping damage.
Distant Clap
A donut AoE centered on Byakko. Players must either move close to the boss or position safely depending on where the ability originates.
Encounter Flow
Phase 1
The fight begins with Byakko cycling through raidwide damage, tankbusters, and positional mechanics. State of Shock requires a group stack, immediately followed by Sweep the Leg, forcing players behind the boss.
As the phase progresses, Unrelenting Anguish introduces orb patterns while Fire and Lightning adds additional pressure. Players must maintain awareness and avoid overlapping damage sources.
Hakutei eventually enters the arena, acting as a mini-boss. Tanks must control it while the party avoids AoEs and resolves White Herald. The phase ends with Roar of Thunder, transitioning into the next stage.
Free-Fall Transition
Players are launched into the air and must navigate a falling sequence. Movement is restricted to positioning only, with no ability usage available.
Players must dodge line attacks, donut AoEs, and incoming projectiles while avoiding the deadly outer boundary. Successfully navigating this phase leads into Phase 2.
Phase 2
The final phase introduces Hundredfold Havoc, requiring players to identify directional patterns and reposition between waves.
Simultaneously, Bombogenesis forces players to spread, while Distant Clap requires quick adjustments in positioning relative to the boss.
As the fight continues, Byakko begins overlapping mechanics from Phase 1 with new patterns, increasing difficulty. Players must execute clean positioning and awareness to avoid being overwhelmed.
The encounter continues in this loop until Byakko is defeated.
