FFXIV Ifrit ARR

The Bowl of Embers (Hard) Trial Guide

The Bowl of Embers (Hard) is a level 50 trial introduced in A Realm Reborn. In this encounter, players once again face Ifrit, Lord of the Inferno, but the primal now demonstrates far more aggressive attack patterns and introduces additional mechanics including dash attacks, expanded area attacks, and multiple Infernal Nails during his ultimate phase.

The encounter builds on the mechanics from the original Bowl of Embers while adding greater movement pressure and a more demanding damage check during the nail phase.

Encounter Overview

The Bowl of Embers (Hard) expands on the mechanics of the original encounter by introducing dash attacks, layered area mechanics, and a multi-target damage check involving several Infernal Nails.

Throughout the fight, players must manage Ifrit’s frontal attacks, avoid expanding flame patterns across the arena, and destroy the Infernal Nails before Ifrit unleashes his ultimate attack Hellfire.

Arena Analysis

The battle takes place on the same circular platform used in the original Bowl of Embers encounter. The arena has no destructible terrain or falling hazards, but many of Ifrit’s attacks cover large portions of the battlefield with fire-based area attacks.

Because several mechanics target random players or large sections of the arena, positioning and movement awareness are critical throughout the encounter.

Phase Structure

Phase One (100% – ~75%)

Ifrit introduces his core attacks including frontal cleaves, knockbacks, and targeted ground eruptions.

Phase Two (~75% – 50%)

Ifrit begins using additional arena attacks that force players to reposition frequently.

Phase Three – Infernal Nails (~50%)

Ifrit summons multiple Infernal Nails, creating a damage check that must be completed before he casts Hellfire.

Phase Four (After Hellfire)

Ifrit resumes using earlier mechanics with greater frequency and increasingly complex area patterns.

Boss Mechanics

Incinerate

Type: Frontal cleave

How to Recognize It

  • Ifrit turns toward his primary target before unleashing a burst of flame.

What It Does

Deals moderate damage to all players standing in front of Ifrit.

Why It’s Dangerous

Multiple players caught in the attack can take significant damage.

How Players Handle It

The tank should keep Ifrit facing away from the party.

Vulcan Burst

Type: Point-blank AoE / Knockback

How to Recognize It

  • Ifrit releases a burst of flame around himself.

What It Does

Deals damage to nearby players and knocks them away from the boss.

Why It’s Dangerous

Players caught too close may be pushed into other incoming mechanics.

How Players Handle It

Players should avoid standing directly beside Ifrit when possible.

Eruption

Type: Targeted ground AoE

How to Recognize It

  • Cracks of glowing magma appear beneath a player.

What It Does

The ground erupts shortly afterward, damaging anyone within the area.

Why It’s Dangerous

Players caught inside the eruption take heavy damage.

How Players Handle It

Players must move away from the marked location before the eruption occurs.

Crimson Cyclone

Type: Charge attack

How to Recognize It

  • Ifrit moves to the edge of the arena and prepares to dash.

What It Does

Ifrit charges across the arena in a straight line.

Why It’s Dangerous

Players caught in the charge take heavy damage.

How Players Handle It

Players should avoid standing in the path of the charge.

Radiant Plume

Type: Arena AoE pattern

How to Recognize It

  • Red circles appear across the arena floor.

What It Does

The marked areas erupt in flames after a short delay.

Why It’s Dangerous

Players remaining inside the circles will take heavy damage.

How Players Handle It

Players must move to the safe portions of the arena.

Sear

Type: Point-blank AoE

How to Recognize It

How Players Handle It

Players should avoid clustering around the boss.

Infernal Nails

Type: Add phase / damage check

How to Recognize It

  • Four Infernal Nails appear around the arena.

What They Do

If the nails remain alive when Ifrit casts Hellfire, the attack will wipe the party.

Why They’re Dangerous

The nails must be destroyed quickly to weaken Ifrit’s ultimate attack.

How Players Handle Them

Players should prioritize destroying the nails before Hellfire resolves.

Hellfire

Type: Signature raidwide attack

How to Recognize It

  • Ifrit begins casting Hellfire after the Infernal Nails appear.

What It Does

Deals extremely heavy damage to the entire party.

Why It’s Dangerous

If any Infernal Nails remain alive, the attack will instantly defeat the party.

How Players Handle It

Destroying all Infernal Nails weakens the attack so the party can survive.

Mechanic Interaction Notes

During the later phases of the encounter, players must resolve Radiant Plume, Eruption, and Crimson Cyclone in quick succession while continuing to avoid Ifrit’s frontal attacks. Because several of these mechanics cover large portions of the arena, players must move carefully to avoid being forced into unsafe positions.

The Infernal Nail phase introduces the encounter’s primary damage check and represents the most dangerous portion of the fight.

Role Pressure Analysis

Tank Pressure

The tank must maintain Ifrit’s position and ensure his frontal attacks do not hit the party.

Healer Pressure

Repeated raidwide damage from Hellfire and player mistakes during movement mechanics can require rapid healing recovery.

DPS Pressure

DPS players must destroy the Infernal Nails quickly to prevent Ifrit’s ultimate attack from wiping the party.

Common Failure Points

Wipes during this encounter commonly occur when:

  • players remain inside Radiant Plume explosions

  • players are struck by Crimson Cyclone

  • Infernal Nails are not destroyed before Hellfire
